Aubrey O’Day : One of Sean “Dedaya” Combs’ most outspoken detractors is resentencing the sentence in his federal sex-crimes case with a stark warning for artists.
Aubrey O’Day, a former member of Combs’ platinum-selling R&B girl group Danity Kane, posted on X Friday, Oct. 3, issuing a “reminder of caution” to young artists and suggesting Combs’ 50-month sentence was too lenient given what his victims endured.
“The real warning is not that a jury might doubt your testimony, or that the court’s sentencing guidelines might fail to reflect the suffering you endured,” she wrote. “The real warning is this: The moment someone in a position of authority oversteps your boundaries or demands more from you than is legally required, walk away and don’t look back.
She added: “No dream, no matter how bright, can overcome the pain and exploitation if you stay.”
Aubrey O’Day and other former Danity Kane members Don Richard and D. Woods have spoken out about the treatment they endured while in the group, including allegations of sexual harassment and verbal abuse.
Woods claimed in Investigation Discovery’s “The Fall of Diddy” docuseries that Aubrey O’Day assured her that Combs frequently sent her “inappropriate” photos, which allegedly included “highly lewd” material.
Although Aubrey O’Day has not publicly given detailed accounts of what she endured, she writes in her post that “Your Well-Being Is Worth More Than Another Opportunity.”
She continued: “Often, those who abuse their power, even when exposed, face consequences far less than the harm they cause their victims. Protect yourself at the first sign of coercion or impropriety. If something feels wrong, trust that instinct and remove yourself from the situation.”
A judge sentenced the embattled hip-hop mogul to just over 4 years in prison in a Manhattan court on Friday, Oct. 3. Combs could be free in less than three years after receiving credit for time spent locked up at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he has been held in custody since his September 2024 arrest.
His conviction centers on the trafficking of his ex-girlfriends — former R&B star Cassandra “Casey” Ventura Fine and a woman known as “Jane” — as well as the transportation of sex workers for the purpose of prostitution.
In July, Combs was convicted of two counts of transporting to engage in prostitution, but a jury acquitted him of the top racketeering charge and both counts of sex trafficking.
Following the partial conviction, Aubrey O’Day shared her grief for Ventura’s fine, writing on her Instagram stories that the verdict made her “physically sick.”
