3 major reasons why Trump got annoyed with India, made several threats one after the other
Why Donald Trump Threatening India: Trump, who has given major positive updates on the Indo-US trade agreement in recent days, has suddenly surprised everyone by imposing a 25% high tariff on India. Not only this, he has also threatened additional penalties for continuing the purchase of oil and weapons from Russia. In addition, Trump also called the Indian economy a ‘dead economy’. However, the only reason for Trump’s anger is not the purchase of Russian oil, but many other reasons.
Why was Trump suddenly fed from India?
Donald Trump’s approach to India has suddenly changed. Earlier, he imposed a 25% tariff on India and is now threatening penalties for trading with Russia. The United States was previously trying to stop India from Russia to buy oil, but now Trump is forcing India to stop the trade. The main reason for this is trade with Russia.
First reason: Russia’s trade rise
Trump has threatened Russia for high tariffs to prevent Ukraine war, but due to its impact, he has targeted countries trading with Russia. After a meeting with NATO’s general secretary, Trump gave Russia a deadline to end the war within 50 days. Subsequently, Secretary -General Mark Root warned countries like India, China and Brazil for a huge tariff for trading with Russia. As part of this, Trump has imposed a 25% tariff on India.
India buys both oil and weapons from Russia, which has increased Russia’s imports. Trump has been overwhelmed by this. The US believes that India is helping Russia in war with Ukraine by buying Russian oil. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also described this as the main cause of tensions in India-US relations.
India buys not only oil from Russia, but also weapons, and imports from Russia have increased rapidly. The same thing is confusing Trump. In fact, America believes that India is helping Russia to continue war with Ukraine by buying large quantities of Russian oil. Not long ago, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also said that the purchase of Russian oil by India was helping Russia to continue the war in Ukraine. He described this as a leading cause of stress in relations between India and America.
Another reason: An international currency proposal for BRICS countries

BRICS is the second main reason for Trump’s displeasure, including India. After applying the tariff, Trump directly targeted the BRICS and spoke of imposing an additional 10% tariff on its member states. BRICS is a set of emerging economies like Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. In the year 2024, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia and United Arab Emirates also joined.

Members of BRICS, especially Russia and China, are trading in their own currencies. Russia also proposed an international currency for BRICS countries in 2022. This proposal can reduce the dependence on the dollar, which is a major threat to America’s domination. This is the reason why Trump is expressing his displeasure over other members of BRICS, including India.
Trump’s fear of BRICS has increased due to the decline in the US dollar value this year and the slump in the US economy. Trump posted on social media that an additional tariff of 10%would be imposed on BRICS-based anti-US-anti-US policies, with no concessions.
Third reason: India’s ‘no’ on Trump’s demand
The trade deal between India and America has not been completed despite many negotiations, as Trump is demanding opening Indian markets for American agriculture and dairy products and reducing tariffs. However, the Government of India has made it clear that no agreement will be made with the interests of the farmers of the country. Trump’s attitude towards India has changed on this issue.
