Mukesh Ambani has unveiled a new AI company, Reliance Intelligence, in which it will launch an AI model, now India will also have its own AI model.

As part of a new initiative called Reliance Intelligence, Reliance Industries will launch a range of AI services for Indian consumers and businesses through strategic partnerships with global tech giants like Google and Meta. The core AI models behind these services are a blend of Meta’s open-source Large Language Models (LLM), indigenous AI developed by Jio Platforms, and integration with Google’s advanced AI and cloud infrastructure.

Key features for AI models and platforms

Meta’s Llama Models: The newly announced joint venture with Meta will leverage Meta’s open-source Llama models to build enterprise-grade AI solutions for Indian businesses.

Jio Brain: Developed by Reliance’s Jio platform, this platform integrates machine learning and AI capabilities into the telecom and enterprise IT environment.

  • Features: Training includes domain-specific models, on-the-fly feature engineering, and a real-time LLM service that is 100% on-premise, allowing companies to leverage their own secure data.

Bharat GPT: In collaboration with IIT Bombay and other top academic institutions, Jio Platforms is developing Bharat GPT, an indigenous, multilingual and multi-modal generative AI model for the Indian context.

Consumer-facing AI applications

JioFrames: These AI-powered smart glasses feature a multilingual voice assistant that uses Jio’s AI models to provide hands-free assistance. For example, the glasses can provide book summaries, cooking guides, and information on local landmarks.

Jio AI Cloud: The next-generation version of this service uses AI to allow users to search for files and categorize photos and documents using simple voice commands.

Haptik AI: A subsidiary of Jio Platforms, this conversational AI platform uses generative AI to power advanced customer experience chatbots for businesses. The platform, called Kontakt, can be integrated with various LLMs, including GPT and Llama.

AI for All Indians: Ultimately, Reliance Intelligence aims to deliver reliable, easy-to-use, and affordable AI services to consumers and small businesses across India.

Infrastructure and Partnerships

Reliance is building the necessary infrastructure to support these ambitious AI initiatives, with key support from its global partners. 

  • AI-ready data centers: Gigawatt-scale, AI-ready data centers are under construction in Jamnagar, Gujarat, powered by Reliance’s green energy initiatives.
  • Google Cloud partnership: Google Cloud will set up a dedicated cloud region in Jamnagar, providing world-class AI and compute capabilities.
  • Meta joint venture: A $100 million joint venture with Meta will focus on developing and scaling enterprise AI solutions, leveraging Meta’s Llama models.
