The union representing Air Canada flight attendants has indicated that its members intend to go on strike this weekend, paving the way for workers to walk off the job as early as Saturday morning.

CUPE gave carrier for air Canada flight

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) gave the carrier the required 72-hour notice after the two sides reached an impasse in negotiations. The earliest workers can walk off the job is 12:58 a.m. Saturday.

The two sides have been negotiating a new collective agreement since March, moving forward on key issues such as wages, work rules and unpaid hours.

Air Canada said on Tuesday afternoon that the two parties were out of talks with each other.

CBC News Reported

CBC News reported Tuesday that CUPE rejected a proposal by Air Canada to resolve the negotiations through binding interest arbitration, and that both the union and the airline had returned to reviewing each other’s proposals.
